10 Famous Places in Jaipur to Explore


Jaipur district is the capital of Rajasthan. It is also recognized as the pink city as most of its ancient buildings are pink in color. Jaipur is also considered as the planned city as per Vastu Shastra


Jaipur is only 268 Km away from the capital of India, Delhi. Jaipur was founded by the king, Jai Singh II, after whom the city was named. 


Jaipur is known for many things like Vastu, Arts, Monuments, Architecture, Forts, Palace, etc. The food, traditional attire and beautiful infrastructure of Jaipur are all enchanting.


The beauty of Jaipur is too mesmerising and everybody loves to wander in Jaipur. The pink city of Rajasthan is one of the beautiful tourist attractions of India. Many of the foreigners come to Jaipur and explore its beautifully decorated ancient historical monuments.


Jaipur is surrounded by several ancient forts and museums. The tourists are not only attracted to Jaipur because of its beauty but also due to its culture and hospitality of people.


Without making you late I will explore the 10 best monuments or places in Jaipur that you must have to visit whenever you are in Jaipur.

1. Amer Fort




Amer fort is one of the principal tourist attractions in Jaipur.  It is an old fort built by King Man Singh in 1592 AD. This fort is also popularly known as Amber Palace


The fort contains Shila Devi Temple. Currently, It is also inherited in the world heritage site by UNESCO. This fort provides a greater view during night.


You can ride on Elephant for visiting the fort. Elephant riding is considered as the most wonderful activity to do in this Fort. You can have Elephant riding between 9:30 am to 1 pm.


The beautiful light show is also shown in this fort between 7:30 to 9 pm at night. Though people stay at night and serve themselves dinner as well at night.



  1. Jaigarh Fort






Jaigarh Fort was built by King Jai Singh II to protect the Amer Fort, in 1726. And it was named after him also.


Jaigarh is situated at the promontory called Cheel ka Teela. Its structure is similar to the Amer fort. Both the fort are connected by subterranean passages.


Jaigarh is most famous for the world's largest cannon on wheels named Jaivana cannon. It contains armoury chambers where you can see ancient swords, guns, shields, and 50kg cannonball.


Tip to Visitors:

  • Ticket prices are applicable for foreigners for Rs. 85 and for Indians for Rs. 50. 



  1. Nahargarh Fort





Nahargarh Fort is one of such majestic and magnificent forts. It was also built by King Sawai Jai Singh II in 1734 AD.


It is located at the Aravali range hills which provides the spectacular view to Jaipur City. It was made for the purpose of providing defence to the city.


If anybody wants to see the whole Jaipur at once, they must visit Nahargarh. There is also a museum  which contains ancient archeology.


Tips for Visit:


  • Ticket charges are applicable for both nationals and foreigners to enter into the fort, for the amount of Rs. 50 and 200 respectively.

  • Official Timing  of opening a gate is 10 A.M and closing is 5:30 P.M. However you might visit at the early hour of mornings casually.



  1. Jantar Mantar




Jantar Mantar is the 19 instruments observatory featured with the world's largest stone called Sundial. It was made by the great astrologer or king Sawai Jai Singh II in 1738 AD. It is also inherited in the world heritage site of UNESCO.


 Vrihat Samrat Yantra, the biggest sun clock in the world is its main speciality. There is a gnomon* in the sundial which shows the time of day.


There are a total 19 instruments including Vrihat Yantra, like Disha Yantra, Jai Prakash Yantra, Chakra Yantra, etc. which are used for several astronomical calculations.


Why do Travellers love Jantar Mantar?


Everybody loved to see some historical monuments or arts. Jantar Mantar is the combination of history and science of ancient time. People get surprised after knowing the fact that even after about 300 year, ancient science actually works in today’s world.


* Gnomon is the structure which throws its shadow on the sundial to indicate time. 


  1. Hawa Mahal





Hawa Mahal also known as the ‘Palace of Winds’ is the ancient palace built by Sawai Pratap Singh in 1799. It was made with red and pink sandstone, which still depicts its beauty and attracts people.


The building is of five floors which do not even have a staircase to walk upon. It consists of 953 small windows, also called Jharokhas.


The best thing about this palace is that no matter how hot the climate is, it always blows cool air inside the palace.


However, the main intention for building this palace is to allow the royal ladies to see the festivals being celebrated in the streets.


Tip to visitors :

  • Visit mostly at summer time to feel the cool air 



  1. City Palace



City Palace was also built during the time of King Sawai Jai Singh II. Palace is also the location of religious and cultural events.


The palace complex has several buildings and courtyards including galleries, restaurants and offices of the museum trust. 


There are several beautiful architectures like Chandra Mahal, Mubarak Mahal, Clock Tower, etc. inside the palace which have their own archeological importance and beauty. 


Each of the palace contains several galleries inside like textile gallery, arms and armours gallery, paintings and photography gallery and transport gallery.


The tourist will love to watch the archeological structure of this palace.



  1. Jal Mahal




Jal Mahal, known as Water Palace, has meaning in its name. This Palace was built in the 18th century by King Jai Singh II.


The palace is at the middle of the Man Sagar lake. The lake is surrounded by hills having rocks.


To see a lake in a Jaipur and historical palace at its middle, itself is an accomplishment.


However, visitors are not allowed to view the interior of the palace but its view from the lake is so wonderful.



  1. Albert Hall Museum





Albert Hall Museum is  the oldest museum of Rajasthan. It was designed by Samuel Swinton Jacob assisted by Tujumool Hussain. 


It is situated at the Ram Niwas Garden opposite New Gate.


There was a great collection of historical artifacts. You can spend more than an hour inside the museum watching the wonderful paintings and sculptures built inside it.


What you can see here ?


Egyptian Mummy is the centre of attraction of this museum. Beside that, there are so many beautiful paintings, jewellerys, carpet, stones,etc, which makes eyes mesmerizing.



  1. Birla Temple





Birla temple is named after Birla’s family who designed and built this temple. Birla Temple is also known as Laxmi Narayan Temple. It is a temple for Hindu pilgrims, dedicated to God Vishnu ( Narayan) and Goddess Laxmi.


This temple was made up of beautiful white marble in 1988 AD. It is located at Tilak Nagar, Moti Dungri of Jaipur.


Festivals like Diwali and Janmashtami are celebrated at the temple. Marble sculptures of this Temple are the most beautiful thing about this temple.


The temple also contains a museum where different pre-incorporation photography of the temple, Birla’s family and their treasuries photography. 



  1. Johari Bazaar




Johari Bazaar is one of the famous streets of Jaipur. This is the oldest market area in jaipur.


It is located at the walking distance of City Palace and Hawa Mahal. 


The street contains old ancient buildings painted in orange, which have bulks of shops. Here you can find exclusive Jaipuri jewelleries made up of gold, silver and diamonds including Jaipuri Sarees and Kurtis and many more.


Every Rajasthani item from clothing to jewelleries are sold here. You visit Johari Bazaar and you bought nothing that won't happen. 


Tips to visitors:

  • Visit without your own vehicle as there is no place to park

  • Be aware of traffic in the road

Jaipur is one of the developed and advanced cities of Rajasthan. Despite those above, there are several other places like Galta Ji ka temple, Rajmandir theatre, etc. to visit when you are at jaipur.
